AIP

The AIP diet is a version of the paleo diet, but it is specifically for dealing with autoimmune issues and reducing inflammation in the body.  It eliminates many foods that could potentially trigger symptoms for a time, and then one slowly brings foods back in and analyzes how they affect the body.  The AIP diet first eliminates all of these foods:

  • grains/gluten
  • dairy
  • legumes
  • eggs
  • nuts and seeds (including chocolate and coffee)
  • nightshades
  • spices derived from nuts, seeds, and nightshades
  • alcohol
  • refined and artificial sweeteners, additives, and oils
But! There are many recipes out there and opportunities to get creative and revise your own recipes for AIP versions that are easier for the body. I know I've had fun with the challenge! The diet still allows:
  • coconut
  • herbs
  • fruits
  • vegetables (not nightshades)
  • meat
  • natural sweeteners (like honey and maple syrup)
